Product Spotlight: Hutchinson Rock Monster

Wheels are more than just looks. In the off-road community, the term beadlock is something that will always pique someone’s interest.

Traditional beadlocks work by having a two-piece outer face of the wheel rim. This outer face will be knurled and sandwich the bead of the rim via bolting the outer face to the inner rim. By sandwiching the tire bead between the two pieces of knurled metal, you’re putting the tire bead in a vice that can’t escape.

This method of bead retention allows for tires to be aired-down to even more questionable levels, normally in the single digits. However, there is one step further: capturing the bead on the back side of the rim.

This method of capturing both beads of the tire is called a double beadlock. Hutchinson is the leading manufacturer of double beadlocks, and the primary wheel defense contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense. Hutchinson has taken their expertise in military-grade wheels and tooled sets for the civilian off-road market.

The double beadlock works by splitting the whole wheel in two, and using an inner PVC liner to capture the beads once the rim is reassembled. This results in an incredibly strong wheel (That is DOT certified Road Legal), that allows for your tires to be run at 0 psi (maximum floatation).

If you are interested in equipping your vehicle with the most capable, and some of the best looking beadlock wheels on the market, go to Hutchinson’s website and shop around from the various models they produce.
