Legends Never Die: Warn M8274

The M8274 was originally launched almost 45 years ago in 1974, as a replacement to the Warn Belllview winch that was produced from 1959 to 1973. Since 1974 when the 8274 was introduced, it has remained basically unchanged with receiving minor tweaks to upgraded electrics and a few cosmetic revisions. The biggest features of the Warn design is based in its odd looks. The 4.6hp series wound electric motor is mounted above the spool for better heat dissipation. The motor is connected to the spool via a unique spur-gear reduction, with a ratio of 134:1 and a maximum load of 8000 lbs. This unique and incredibly strong setup makes the 8274 the fastest winch in Warn’s line-up 43 years strong, at nearly 80 feet-per-minute. Additionally, the drum has 150 feet of cable which is one of the largest in the industry.

The four-ton winch is a staple of the off-road community and is instantly recognizable anywhere it goes with its timeless design. It is easy to say, “they don’t make them like they use to,” but with Warn – they do. Legends will never die.
